Firefox v23 on Mac and OWL Space Audio Recording

August 22nd, 2013 by kumahata

Mac Users

If you have updated Mozilla Firefox to v.23, your audio recording may no longer work in OWL Space Tests & Quizzes.  If it is not working, please update your Java Running Environment (JRE).

*Before going through the download procedure below, make sure that the problem is not your audio input.  To set your audio input, open System Preferences -> Sound -> Input.

Steps to update your JRE

  1. Go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
  2. Click the Download button under JRE (Far right).
  3. In the next page, click to accept license agreement.
  4. Choose the JRE to download.  I recommend
    Mac OS X x64 50.62 MB jre-7u25-macosx-x64.dmg
  5. Go through a typical application installation in your mac.
  6. Just to be safe, restart your Mac.

This should allow you to record.

Firefox v23 and OWL Space Media Viewing

August 20th, 2013 by kumahata

If you updated Mozilla Fireforx browser to version 23, there is a trick to watch media files in OWL Space.
As shown below, please click on the shield which appears in your address bar to disable the protection.

This protection may apply to other part of OWL Space, too.  So keep watching for that protection icon.

(A big thanks to Jane Puthaaroon from Educational Technologies for this tip.)
